Portuguese Version Here

Keywords: Fear, Micro Fiction, One-Page

Suggestion for the panels’ display: Download

CHARACTERS NOTES

Soldier One: He has the helmet of the military uniform put on (we are unable to see his hair). He has a square chin and brown eyes.

Soldier Two: He does not have the helmet in his head and his short, red hair can be seen. The chin is more pointed than Soldier One’s and his eyes are blue.

Uniform: I suggest that you draw the military uniform for soldiers of your country.

PAGE ONE – FIVE PANELS

PANEL ONE

The Soldier One is in a kneeled position. He has a concentrated expression on his face and is sweating. He’s digging with his own hands around a military boot. Small pieces of earth and grass can be seen in the air.

SOLDIER TWO (anxious, off-panel): Can you see what type of mine is?!

PANEL TWO

[Focus over the shoulder of Soldier One] The Soldier One is looking up to Soldier Two. We can only see his head, neck, right shoulder and his right hand giving a thumbs-up to Soldier Two. The Soldier Two is sweating from is forehead and he has an anxious expression on his face. His arms are down next to his body.

SOLDIER ONE (relieved): It’s an M14 mine! If it was activated, it should have exploded by now! It’s safe!

PANEL THREE

An M14 antipersonnel mine is on a white background. It does not have its safety clip on, but the arrow is pointed to the safe position.

 PANEL FOUR

[Waist-up shot of Soldier Two, focus below his eyes’ level] The soldier Two has no-spilled tears in his eyes. He has a more relieved expression and a small smile on his lips.

SOLDIER ONE (off-panel): For heaven’s sake, you really are a lucky bastard!

PANEL FIVE

[Shoulder-up shot of Soldier Two, focus bellow his eyes’ level] You can see the Soldier Two is hesitant; his eyes are wide open and his lips are pressed in each other in fear.

LEGEND (Soldier Two): But what if… we are wrong?
